Questions and Answers

How much does therapy cost (and do you accept insurance)?

My rate for a 50-minute psychotherapy session is $250, which is consistent with the market rate in most California cities. The full fee is due at time of service via a credit card that I keep on file via a secured online payment portal. I do not accept insurance but I am happy to provide you with a superbill that can allow clients to receive out-of-network reimbursement, depending on their insurer and their specific insurance benefits. It’s best to check with your insurer to confirm your coverage for reimbursement and what percentage of out-of-network costs are reimbursable.

How does therapy via video work?

The research is clear that remote therapy for most common conditions is just as effective as in-person therapy. Clients tends to appreciate the convenience of meeting without needing to commute, and that we can meet no matter where you are within the state of California. I would provide you with a personalized link to our sessions, which will take place on a secured video platform that is easy to use, but I’m glad to provide use instructions if needed. I always meet with you from a quiet, private, well-lit space, and I’d encourage you to do the same. I find that technical issues are quite rare, but in the unusual case that our connection is ever interrupted, we can resume the session by phone.

How long does therapy last?

Therapy is a collaborative process so we will continually check in on your progress toward meeting your goals and adjust the plan accordingly. For clients with a narrowly defined concern (e.g. uncomplicated insomnia), a briefer course of therapy (e.g. a couple of months) may be appropriate. For more complex, severe, or harder-to-define concerns, therapy may last longer.

My job is to customize the therapy to your needs. You can expect an ongoing discussion of what we both feel will work best to ensure that  you've fully benefited from therapy and achieved the goals that brought you here in the first place.

How do we get started?

The effectiveness of therapy has a lot to do with having a good fit between client and therapist. That's why I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation so that you can figure out if I might be a good for you. Feel free to reach out via the Contact Info page to schedule a time for us to talk by phone so that we can talk about you, your needs, and how I can help.
