How we’ll work together

Our therapy work together will be highly collaborative, goal-oriented, and strengths-based.
It will be a team effort to resolve your problems and refocus your life on what you value. We start by identifying your best qualities and what you're already doing well, so we can build on that foundation.

You bring the expertise on you, your life concerns, your goals, and your strengths.

I bring psychological expertise, including an array of research-proven strategies to help you relieve your distress, promote your wellbeing, and reach your goals— along with plenty of empathy and humor.

Together, we meet in the middle to deeply understand what shapes you, including your values, your thoughts, your emotions, your relationships, your cultural influences, your challenges, and your strengths.

With our expertise combined, we'll create your plan for a more meaningful life that feels true to who you are. There will be homework for you, so that you can take what we discuss in therapy, implement it in your everyday life, and report back on what tools are helpful and what we need to continue working on together.

The therapies I practice

I have experience providing therapy in individual, couples, family, and group formats. The common thread to my approach, no matter the format, has been a strong dedication to evidence-based, research-supported therapies.

Simply said, I use interventions that are proven to be effective.  These therapies work by first examining your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, how they impact one another, and how they’re affecting your life in helpful and unhelpful ways. The next phases of therapy focus on helping you develop healthier ways of thinking, promote more positive emotions, and take actions that are aligned with who you want to be and what matters most to you.

The specific evidence-based treatments I’m trained in include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (including CBT for Insomnia) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I also incorporate use of mindfulness strategies. These interventions have been consistently shown across numerous research studies to be highly effective in relieving depression, anxiety disorders, stress-related problems, insomnia, and even chronic pain. I have also been trained in Cognitive Processing Therapy, which is considered a first-line, “gold standard” treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

I completed formal, structured trainings in these therapies at the University of Wisconsin Department of Psychiatry, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Beck Institute for Cognitive Therapy.
