About Joe

I am a licensed clinical psychologist (CA license #28650) with more than 10 years of clinical experience, including psychotherapy, behavioral medicine, and psychological assessment, with diverse clients across the age span. During that time, I've found therapy work to be humbling, life-affirming, and enriching.

I earned my PhD from The University of Texas at Austin after completing a pre-doctoral internship in clinical health psychology at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics. I then completed a two-year postdoctoral fellowship program at the San Francisco VA Medical Center in their primary care clinic, where I later served as the lead psychologist. Across these settings, I've dedicated myself to delivering the latest, evidence-based psychotherapy approaches that are research-shown to be most effective for many of the most common mental health issues. I’m honored to have worked with diverse clients in terms of culture, race, ethnicity, physical abilities, sexual orientation, and gender identity.

Outside of my private practice, I developed and currently lead the Workforce Transformation team at Lyra Health, which supports employers in developing and executing on their organizational mental health strategies. I also serve as a subject matter expert, media consultant, and presenter on workplace mental health, occupational burnout, and mental health training for workforces. Related to this work, I’ve been interviewed by the Washington Post, Fast Company, the Los Angeles Times, and CNN.com and have been published in Harvard Business Review and several peer reviewed journals.

In my spare time, I enjoy college football (Hook 'em Horns!), cooking, hiking, and road trips that immerse me in the natural beauty of California.
